Euro Gold For Team GB
Team GB has secured a gold medal in the European Shooting Championships in Belgrade.
The medal comes for the double trap shotgun team which comprises of Richard Faulds, Peter Wilson and Steve Walton.
The trio, who equalled a European record with their score in Slovenia, were delighted with their victory, which comes just a month after Wilson won gold in the Maribor World Cup.
In a very tight battle with Italy, GB won gold on countback, which means the final round of shots was higher than their closest rivals.
Faulds had another reason to celebrate after shooting himself to a silver medal in the individual double trap competition.
Speaking after a day in which he won two medals, Faulds said: “We are very pleased.
“The team gold is something we have wanted to win for many years and we have now done that. It shows how the team is continuously improving and the signs are looking very good with just a year to go until London 2012.
“It’s really nice to win silver. We’re so confident now and I think we can do better than ever in the Olympics. We have a lot of quota places and everybody is in good spirits.
“The standard of double trap has really gone up. To have two or three guys that can push you is priceless."
Georgina Geike became the latest athlete to secure yet another quota place for Team GB for London 2012.
The pistol shooter finished in 13th spot in Belgrade and that was enough to guarantee an additional spot for British Shooting in next years Olympics.
Known as ‘Gorgs’ in the British camp, the pistol shooter said: “I’m really, really chuffed with how it went.
“I wasn’t really expecting to win a quota place, but I’ve been working really hard in training and it’s paid off.
“Now an additional quota place has been secured it will help me concentrate on my performance and that will really help.”
