Georgina ‘Gorgs’ Geikie, shooting in the 25m Sport Pistol event at the European Championships in Osijek, has become only the 5th Briton ever to reach a pistol final in an ISSF supervised competition. Gorgs’ 582, comprising 292 precision and 290 rapid, put her in the final in 6th place. The 4-series final was fiercely contested with all of the competitors regularly shooting over the magic ‘50’. In the end, Gorgs finished 7th on 781.2, but only 0.4 points off 5th place. Her final score is a new British Record, and is an especially remarkable performance given her inability to train in Great Britain due to the firearms legislation. In the other pistol events, Mick Gault narrowly missed the final of the 50m Free Pistol event, his 554 being just one point off the shoot-off places. He placed 11th. And Hannah Polak, in the Junior 25m Sport Pistol event finished with a very creditable 558 and 13th place. All in all, this was a very good performance for Britain’s pistol shooters.
