James Huckle won GBR's first Shooting medal at the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival this morning, with Gold in the Men's 10m Air Rifle event. A qualification round of 588 gave James a remarkable 17 point lead before the final in a field containing athletes from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore, a solid final of 103.0 extending his lead slightly. His Gold Medal was presented by Lord Moynihan, Chairman of the British Olympic Association. In the Women's Air Rifle there was disappointment for both Sheree Cox and Jen McIntosh who took fourth and fifth place respectively. Sheree had entered the final in equal first place, with Jen in fourth, however after an hour long delay in the Sydney heat after target failure in the finals hall both were bitterly disappointed with their finals. Both women shoot again tomorrow, in the 3x20 smallbore match.
