In the morning’s shooting events, Team GB did not progress any further with eliminations from the men’s 10m air rifle and the women’s trap qualification rounds.

Jonathan Hammond was 29th - shooting a personal best of 589 in a tight qualifier led by Henri Hakkinen of Finland.

It gave the Banchory marksman confidence, in what is regarded as his weaker event:

“I didn’t get a great start but I settled down after that,” he said.

“To shoot a PB was great – I can’t ask anymore of myself.

“This gives me confidence to carry this over into my stronger event later this week.”

Charlotte Kerwood, was frustrated by her performance – finishing 16th – and missing out on a place in the final later today.

“I tried my best today but this experience has made me more determined to work even harder over the next four years for 2012,” she said.

“I shot well in the first round and I tried to control my nerves but the score didn’t reflect my shooting,” she said.

“The second round was much better, and the GB contingent in the crowd were even cheering my misses and it was fantastic with such great support.

“The third round was harder, but I’ll be back in four years time having learnt from this.”
