The 2nd Jikji Cup Korea Open Championships was held in Cheongiu at the International Shooting range there between 3rd- 10th May 2007.  It is ranked by the International Paralympic Committee as being one of the primary Paralympic Qualification Events.  13 countries were present, including China, Korea, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.  Multi-medallist Paralympian Deanna Coates and upcoming athlete Nathan Milgate travelled with Team Manager Pasan Kularatne and medic Dr Jacqueline Brickley.

Nathan shot extremely well right from the first day where he shot 587, a personal best, in the R1 (standing) air rifle, which is his secondary event and competed in the finals where he placed 6th.  He then went on to take Bronze in the R3 Prone event, recording a score of 599 in the qualification along only two other athletes - Ashley Adams of Australia and Abdulla Sultan of UAE.  Adams went on to take Gold, with Chinese athlete Dong Chao taking Silver.

Deanna Coates recovered from a shaky start in her R2 standing air rifle event where she did not qualify for the finals on the first day of competition to take silver the next day in the mixed open falling target rifle event, which saw all the best male and female rifle shooters at the competition take part.

Pasan, who recently joined Disability Target Shooting Great Britain as the full time National Coach and Performance Manager on 16th April, said ‘I am quite pleased with the athletes’ excellent performance and we were proud to see the British Flag flying twice at the Medal Ceremonies’.  SPM Claire Stirling, who works with disability shooting, said ‘It is really good to see the athletes bringing home medals at such a World Class event as we approach Beijing.  The team was able to perform at the highest level in the Far East showing that our preparation and travel strategies are going to plan.’
