British Shooting’s board of directors met on 20th July to revisit the statement issued by the Chairman on 1st July. The board has decided to withdraw this statement.  In the light of further information, British Shooting continues to seek a shooting venue for London 2012 which is a permanent “bricks and mortar” legacy. British Shooting therefore wish to make it crystal clear that their preferred option is to host the 2012 shooting event at Bisley. We affirm that British Shooting will continue to work with LOCOG to maximise legacy opportunities and we will do all that is necessary to ensure that the shooting events at the Olympic Games are truly successful.

The following bodies were represented at this meeting:-

British International Clay Target Shooting Federation, National Rifle Association, National Small-Bore Rifle Association, English Target Shooting Federation, Welsh Target Shooting Federation, Scottish Target Shooting Federation, Target Shooting Federation of Northern Ireland, Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain.  Disability Target Shooting Great Britain.

Final for Gorgs at European Championships Print E-mail

Georgina ‘Gorgs’ Geikie, shooting in the 25m Sport Pistol event at the European Championships in Osijek, has become only the 5th Briton ever to reach a pistol final in an ISSF supervised competition.  Gorgs’ 582, comprising 292 precision and 290 rapid, put her in the final in 6th place.  The 4-series final was fiercely contested with all of the competitors regularly shooting over the magic ‘50’.  In the end, Gorgs finished 7th on 781.2, but only 0.4 points off 5th place.  Her final score is a new British Record, and is an especially remarkable performance given her inability to train in Great Britain due to the firearms legislation.

In the other pistol events, Mick Gault narrowly missed the final of the 50m Free Pistol event, his 554 being just one point off the shoot-off places.  He placed 11th.  And Hannah Polak, in the Junior 25m Sport Pistol event finished with a very creditable 558 and 13th place.  All in all, this was a very good performance for Britain’s pistol shooters.
