Shona Marshall, representing Scotland, won the Women's Trap event, with an excellent combined total of 90 (69 + 21). Shona qualified for the final in first place, one target ahead of Charlotte Kerwood, and remained in control throughout, finishing 3 targets ahead of Liudmila Pshenichnikova of Russia, while Charlotte slipped to fourth place. In the Men's Trap event, Mike Wixey of Wales was the highest place Briton with 119 for 7th place, missing out on a place in the final in a shoot-off, with Carl Exton and Scotland's Andrew Addison also making the top fifteen. The Junior Men's event was more successful however, Lee Campion taking the Gold with 114 ahead of Thomas Ward, with Josef Skura, James Mansfield and Scott Morgan in 5th through 7th place. The British trio of Ward, Skura and Mansfield took the Gold in the team event ahead of Cyprus and Russia. Skeet News In the Men's Skeet event Malcolm Allan was the highest placed, ending up in 12th place after a seven-way shoot-off for the last place in the final. Elena Little and Katherine Brickell just missed out on the medals in the Women's event, coming 4th and 5th respetively, while Sally Bond was third in the Junior Women's event. Double Trap News Cyprus also saw a good start to the Beijing campaign for the Double Trap team comprising Richard Faulds (134); Steven Scott (141) and Tim Kneale (137 and an international PB) to take the team gold medal ahead of Russia and Germany, both world forces in this event. Individually GBR posted 3 finalists and Peter Wilson shooting 139/46 for 185 won the individual silver behind a fantastic display by Gerebics (HUN) who shot 144/50 for 194 in difficult conditions. This is a world record equalling score. Steven Scott who went into the final in 2nd place (141) dropped down to tie 4th and then won the shoot-off against Fokeev (RUS) the shooter of the year in 2006. Tim Kneale, in his first major final, finished 6th with 137/42. Steve Walton (135 and 10th) and Peter Wilson were shooting to see who would be nominated as the Olympic reserve when the selection panel meets in early May to finalise the British Shooting nominations to the BOA for the Beijing Olympic team. Peter Wilson prevailed. The results indicate that in DT we have a genuinely competitive squad of world class shooters with all 5 senior Pathway Programme shooters finishing in the top 12 in a world class field. In the juniors, Luke Garner (125) came 4th behind a mature and very able Russian team. Stephen Shirley shot 114 and Chester Cobb 110 in his first international. |
